Environment & Impact
GRP is an excellent alternative to steel and other metals when the environment and sustainability are the focus
GRP products are not only long-term sustainable. They are also more environmentally friendly to produce than their steel and aluminum counterparts.
In addition to our products having good mechanical properties, our products are a more environmentally friendly and energy-efficient choice. The production of our Gratings and Gratings requires only 56% of the energy required to produce the equivalent in steel. When compared to aluminum, we use only 20% of the total energy.
Below Graphs are calculated using a Method according to: TRACI/IMPACT 2002+/IPCC/Energy Feb 2009 together with Heathrow Airport when producing 20m2, 38mm Grid Floor/Grating in various materials.

Our products are approved by the Building Products Assessment Board. BVB ID:144505
Why GRP?
Our products are made from fiberglass that is woven into a mold or through a process called pultrusion. Glass fibers, which are the core of all our materials, are then mixed with a type of resin that binds the glass fibers together and creates a solid core with very good properties. The type of resin used depends on the product's area of application.
Our products can also be colored with a special pigment that is mixed into our Resin, which means that the product's color is continuous in the material and cannot be scratched or worn away. Most of our products can also be obtained in any RAL color.
Low weight
Easy to process
Built-in anti-slip
Non-conductive
High chemical resistance
WHAT IS GRP/FRP?
GRP (Glass Reinforced Polymer) and FRP (Fibre Reinforced Polymer) are the collective names for a type of product where a core of fibers, usually glass, is surrounded by a Polymer or Resin to achieve the desired properties.
Our products weigh less than 80% of their galvanized steel counterparts, making handling much faster and often requiring no external mechanical lifting assistance. This saves money on both transportation and rental of heavy machinery that would normally be required for equivalent products.
By mixing our different resins we create properties that are applied to each product and area of application. Common to all our products is 100% corrosion resistance. Even with our simplest solution of different resins, a chemical resistance is also achieved that allows our products to be used in very tough conditions in industrial and commercial areas. See technical data sheet DS-DST-10 for more info
Our products do not conduct current, making our products excellent for installations in areas where grounding and protection for the safe transport of personnel must otherwise be considered. Our products have been used for installation in switchgear, transformer stations and within railways for over 20 years with very good results.
Our material is also completely radar transparent, which has led several major airports in Europe to choose our material for the manufacture of stairwells and access bridges around both the field and terminal buildings. We at Decksafe are so confident that our products are of very good quality that we always offer at least a 10-year durability guarantee.
As our products are made from extremely durable components, we believe that no maintenance is required to keep the products in good condition. Normal cleaning may be required as with any other material.
For extremely exposed areas, such as around marine areas, we have special products that protect against algae and other natural growth. Our GRP products are extremely strong in their construction and weigh up to 80% less than steel and 30% less than Aluminum. Yet we have equivalent performance. Our structural profiles remain unaffected by tensile, shear and compression forces. The products also remain unaffected by thermal impact.
All our products are fire-resistant by mixing a fire retardant into the resin that binds the fibers together. We also have a product that is intended for ships and industries where special fire classification applies. This range is produced from a special resin, called Phenol. This provides extremely durable properties and is approved by the United States Coast Guard (USCG), which characterizes a very good product intended for tough conditions.
The environment has a lot to gain from our GRP products.
